Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) is the method of play therapy that creates a non-judgmental, emotionally supportive therapeutic atmosphere with clear boundaries that provide the child with psychological safety to permit the learning of emotional and behavioral self-regulation. Filial Family Therapy (FFT) is a unique family therapy model that is designed for instances where children between ages 2 and 12 have problems where the addition of their parent(s) would be helpful. It teaches parents how to become the primary therapeutic agents for their children through the medium of play therapy. (National Institute of Relationship Enhancement - NIRE)
No-Talk Therapy is a treatment that is used with children and adolescents who won't or can't respond to traditional talk therapy. This approach helps provide these nervous, angry, and confused youth with confidence, understanding and self-esteem that they need in order to aquire a voice of their own. Other medias used include: art, crafts, journaling, games and the sand tray.
Child Abuse is the physical, psychological or sexual mistreatment of children.
Child Sexual Abuse is any sexual act with a child that he/she can not understand or agrees to do. These acts include any improper touching, intercourse, exposure to pornography, all for the gratification of an adult or an older child.
Sexual Abuse or Sexual Violence of a person is any sexual act that is not consensual. It covers many areas, some of which are: sexual assault, rape, sexual harassment, unwanted pornography, etc…
Domestic Violence is the manipulation of power in a relationship in order to control another. It can be by physical, emotional, psychological, or sexual mistreatment.
Emotional Abuse results from all the other abuses, but is also brought on by verbal attacks that damage a person’s self-esteem.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a combination of two therapies: Cognitive Therapy and Behavior Therapy. Cognitive Therapy helps you to see how certain thinking patterns cause specific symptoms. Behavior Therapy helps you reduce the connections between difficult conditions and the usual reactions to them. The use of both together offers the individual a strong system for getting one’s life adjusted.
Sand Tray Therapy is a method in which a child or adult build whatever they want in the sand with the use of miniature figures.
